| 英文描述 | Secondary muscle and nerve damage due to the weight of a cow which becomes recumbent for other reasons such as milk fever is the cause of most 'downer' cows. This is called the 'crush syndrome'. Muscle enzymes such as CPK and AST are elevated. Dx by exclusion of other causes such as fractures. Muscle necrosis is seen at necropsy. Good footing on dirt or sand can improve the prognosis. While most downer cows remain alert, one author described a syndrome in which about 2% of cows treated for milk fever became dull and laterally recumbent 1-2 days after remaining down following treatment. Affected 'non-alert downer' cows can develop mucoid and sometimes bloody feces, and often moan when in lateral recumbency (Fenwick et al.); treatment for these non-alert downers has not been successful. |
